Fossil Ridge graduate Brady Russell to serve as captain in
Super Bowl
By Kevin Lytle – Feb. 4, 2026
Brady Russell will run onto the Levi’s Stadium field for Super Bowl 60 with a captain’s “C” on his uniform.
The Fossil Ridge graduate has been named one of the three Super Bowl captains for Seattle when the Seahawks face the Patriots.
Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald names three captains for each game and Russell was given the honor for the Super Bowl, along with receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and cornerback Devon Witherspoon. It will be the fifth game this season where Russell has served as captain. Russell will be serving as Seattle’s special teams captain.
“Guys follow his lead. His energy every day is contagious. Love for his teammates, love for the game, unselfish,” Macdonald said of Russell, according to the Spokesman Review. “He’s tough as nails. You could argue he’s probably one of the best core four combo guys in the league. He’s been doing it for a couple years.”
Russell is a key special teams player for the Seahawks. He injured his hand in the NFC championship game, but is expected to play in the Super Bowl.
The 6-foot-3, 250-pound Russell (a fullback) is a 2017 Fossil Ridge graduate. As a SaberCat, he mostly played on the defensive side of the ball.
Russell had 114 tackles, 21 tackles-for-loss and 21.5 sacks at Fossil Ridge. He had back-to-back double-digit sack totals his junior and senior seasons. He occasionally popped up on the offensive side of the ball, making seven catches for 148 yards and two touchdowns as a senior.
Russell became a star at CU after he walked on. He became a full-time tight end and played in 49 career games, notching 78 catches for 799 yards and three touchdowns. He was a captain as a senior.
Russell went undrafted in the 2023 NFL draft, initially signing with Philadelphia as an undrafted free agent. The Seahawks signed him off Philadelphia’s practice squad in 2023. He’s now played 44 career games for Seattle, mostly contributing on special teams.
Seattle faces New England in Super Bowl 60 at 4:30 p.m. Mountain on Feb. 8 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
